Once again Joseph tested the hearts of his brothers to see how they would respond when he would make a claim on Benjamin to be his slave. His brother Judah made good on his promise to Jacob to become surety for Benjamin, and when Joseph saw Judah’s willingness to sacrifice himself to save Jacob from the grief of losing Benjamin, Joseph was ready to reveal himself to his brothers. Thus Joseph was able to witness the repentance and remorse of his brothers for the injury they had committed years earlier to him.
