During his years of imprisonment, the Lord continued to nurture and prepare Joseph for a destiny so significant that Joseph would not have believed it even if he were told on a solemn oath.
Joseph was not only a capable and prudent man, but he was also given the divine gift of being able to interpret dreams. When he correctly interpreted the dreams of Pharaoh’s chief butler and chief baker, Joseph hoped that the butler would mention him to Pharaoh so that he would be extricated from the dungeon. Instead, he continued to languish in prison.
Reading of Genesis 40
Prayer: Lord, it is easy to read this account with complete hindsight and realize that everything You allowed in Joseph’s life worked together for his ultimate good. But Joseph did not have this hindsight and could only see things as they were happening. Grant me the wisdom to see things more from Your perspective and to view my temporal circumstances in light of Your eternal purposes.
