Fruits of the Spirit
“The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.” Galatians 5:22–23 (nrsv)
“For I fear that when I come, I may find you not as I wish, and that you may find me not as you wish: I fear that there may perhaps be quarrelling, jealousy, anger, selfishness, slander, gossip, conceit, and disorder.” 2 Corinthians 12:20 (nrsv)
What a contrast there is between these two verses! One is the work of the Holy Spirit in us; the other, Satan’s handiwork. The fruits of the Spirit are the qualities Christ Himself embodied. By unifying oneself with the Holy Spirit, these gifts will blossom and grow in us. Without being tapped into this Ultimate power Source, those efforts will wither and fade on the vine.
I want to love with abandon, feel and show joy without restraint. I desire Christ’s peace in my heart and that my watchwords become forbearance, mercy and patience. I will show kindness, goodness and gentleness toward others and faithfulness toward the Lord. All these things are impossible without Christ, but tapped into His vine means I will be fed by His Spirit.
FAITH STEP: Think of the fruits of the Spirit and strive to embody one of them today. Consciously show that trait to everyone you meet.
