Friendly with Everyone, Friends with Only Some
Be kind and discerning in the workplace.
Everyone deserves respect and acknowledgement. Start each day by taking every opportunity to greet everyone with a smile and hello. Greet them by name, if possible. If you have not been introduced, ask them their name.
Look for ways to be courteous. Hold open a door, push the elevator button, or help carry packages. Make every effort to make friendly gestures. It makes the culture more conducive to working together for results.
When it comes to being friendly, do not discriminate. When it comes to being friends, choose wisely.
Be on the lookout for people who have positive reputations for trustworthiness, ethics, honesty and good performances. This is your best opportunity to build teams of people you can trust and who work well together and accomplish the organizations’ goals.
Once you have a list of candidates, listen to what they say and then watch their behavior.
Ask people you trust about people they trust. Be open and get to know them, and take your time.
