Fresh Fragrance

We all should be so in love with Him, that we leave His scent on those we interact with.

But thanks be to God, who in Christ always leads us in triumphal procession, and through us spreads the fragrance of the knowledge of him everywhere. For we are the aroma of Christ to God among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing, (2 Corinthians 2:14-15 ESV)

In my daughter Tia’s first semester of Bible College, she called me late one evening to say goodnight. Instead of her usual peppy chat, this night her voice seemed stressed. Being a pushy mother, I asked what was going on.

“I was serving a banquet tonight and an elderly man grabbed my arm.”

Suddenly she had my full attention even though it was near midnight and a moment earlier I had been ready for sleep. She went on, “He was so sweet . . .  he looked at me and said that I smelled like Jesus . . . What did he mean by that?”

Whew. It wasn’t the arm grab that affected her, it was his compliment. I was so encouraged that she carried the fragrance of Christ and cried as I explained to her the passage from Corinthians.

I’d never been accused of smelling like Jesus and I will admit, was a bit jealous! Oh how we all should be so in love with Him, that we leave His scent on those we interact with.

Father, help us to fall so deeply in love with You that we truly do bring the aroma of Your Son everywhere we go. May we be a fragrant witness for You today as we go about our day. Amen
