Freedom in Forgiveness

Description

Ask God to help you forgive those who’ve wronged you, no matter what their offense. It’s through that mentality that Joseph lived in freedom even when he was a slave.

Read: Genesis 44:1-45:28 & Matthew 14:13-36 & Psalm 18:37-50 & Proverbs 4:11-13

Recall the worst thing a sibling has done to you. Whatever it is, it likely didn't involve selling you into slavery.

Joseph’s story is one of the most impressive and inspirational stories in the Old Testament. He went from a cocky rich kid to a slave to a prisoner to second in command of a global superpower. In each instance, Joseph’s talent and integrity won him friends in high places.

At this point in Genesis, Joseph reveals himself to his brothers for the first time since they sold him into slavery for 8 ounces of silver. Instead of seething with anger and bitterness, he welcomes his brothers with tears and hugs. Joseph abandoned all rights to revenge and used his power to reunite the family.

Joseph’s story shows us what God can do with people who aren't controlled by unforgiveness and a poor attitude. Ask God to help you forgive those who've wronged you, no matter what their offense. It’s through that mentality that Joseph lived in freedom even when he was a slave.
