When adversity hits, you can be honest with God about the way you feel. It’s okay to “freak out” and vent your feelings to Him.

Psalm 142:2-7

You can be honest with God about the way you feel when adversity hits. It’s okay to “freak out” and vent your feelings to him. David doesn’t hold it in and neither should we, “I pour out before him my complaint; before him I tell my trouble” (Psalm 142.2).

God created us with emotions and already knows our troubles. He cares so much about the way we feel he records them in his book and puts our tears in a bottle (Psalm 56.8 NLT). Being stoic in times of stress is an old fashioned standard that fosters the idea of God not caring when we suffer. Nothing could be further from the truth. Listen to what Pastor Brad Holmes says about freaking out to God in the sermon clip below.

The Bible teaches God loves us so much he can totally handle our “freaking out” to him, “Lord, the God of Israel, there is no God like you in heaven above or on earth below—you who keep your covenant of love with your servants who continue wholeheartedly in your way” (1 Kings 8.23).

Too often we “freak out” to other people rather than to God. God not only wants to hear, but is mindful of our troubles and able to sort them out. Today as you meet with him, journal in your own words how the stress you have makes you feel. Then offer up your words to him by way of getting used to being honest with God about your feelings.
