Forget the Personal Bodyguard
“Open the gates, that the righteous nation may enter, The one that remains faithful. The steadfast of mind You will keep in perfect peace, because he trusts in You.” (Isaiah 26:2-3, AMP)
When was the last time that you felt threatened by someone? Watching news clips of celebrities, politicians, and the super-rich with their entourage of friends, hangers-on and bodyguards, I am reminded of the 1992 hit movie, The Bodyguard. Kevin Costner starred as Frank Farmer and Whitney Houston as Rachel Marron. Frank, a former Secret Service agent experienced at protecting US Presidents, is hired as a personal bodyguard to protect Rachel, a beautiful rock star. In the end, Frank lays his life on the line for Rachel and takes a bullet from a hired assassin to save her life.
As a Christian, I am comforted to know that unlike celebrities, politicians and the super-rich, I do not have to hire a bodyguard to protect me. As a Child of God, I have everything I need in El Shaddai (All-sufficient One). I can call on Jehovah Nissi (The Lord My Banner of Victory), or Jehovah Shalom (My Peace andWholeness) anytime of the day and night that I feel threatened. I have confidence knowing that the Lord will fight for me (Exodus 14:14).
Do you need protection? Are you intimidated by an overbearing and hostile boss or coworker? Do you routinely face irate customers who vent their frustrations and anger on you? Are you fearful that a coworker might snap under the pressure and without warning explode in an act of workplace violence? If the answer is yes, then I urge you to call on the Lord today. The Word says that He will never leave you or forsake you. God watches over you constantly.
Remember, the ending has already been written. Like Frank, Jesus put His life on the line and shed His blood for you! Forget the personal bodyguard. Jesus is your protection. He is all you need. Keep your eyes on Him and He will keep you safe in perfect peace.
Lord, thank you for the protection of the blood of Jesus Christ. I find rest and perfect peace knowing that you are my God, My Banner of Victory and that you will never leave me or forsake me. I will trust in you at all times. Through the blood of Jesus and in the name of Jesus I pray, amen.
