I know your works; you are neither cold nor hot. I wish that you were either cold or hot. So, because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I am about to spit you out of my mouth (Revelation 3:15–16, NRSV)
Lukewarm coffee… tepid bathwater… blasé attitudes… half-hearted enthusiasm… barely warmed meals… lackadaisical participation… desultory contributions… disinterest… indifference. Not exactly the things you crave in your life, right?
We send lukewarm food and beverages back to the kitchen to be heated, and we shy away from people who are indifferent.
God wants lukewarm Christians to “fire up,” to become feverishly hot for His cause. In Revelation, He chastises the church in Laodicea for becoming lukewarm, indifferent and self-satisfied.
Apathy, complacency and self-sufficiency have no place in God’s kingdom. He requires one’s full heart. We get to read Scripture and talk to the Lord in prayer; we don’t have to. Become an enthusiastic Christian through study of the Word, fellowship with other believers, and prayer.
FAITH STEP: Pray, “Lord Jesus, pump me up with a spirit of joy! Let me not be blinded by the petty things of life. Let me live passionately for You.”
