Finding Peace in Christ

Description

Donovon Darius shares how football is an opportunity to give God glory.

My football career is an opportunity—not just to get money or a contract, or see my name in lights. After all, when we leave here, we don’t take anything with us. I’m on the field with an opportunity to give God glory. Everybody sees how rough and tough football is, but the harder I play, the more I’m thanking God.

I haven’t always been a committed Christian. I started to take that relationship with God seriously just after the draft that got me into football in 1997. I knew that I didn’t want to go into this lifestyle and all its temptations without God. And there are a lot of temptations in the NFL. I wanted a relationship like the Bible talks about: a faith walk where there is peace, hope and love.

That relationship helped me last year when I tore my anterior cruciate ligament during our second game of the 2005 season. It took me 20 minutes to get into the locker room and pray that God would give me the perspective I needed. I was disappointed about the injury. But I knew that God could work this thing out.

When I go through something, no matter how good or bad, I know there is purpose behind it. It gives me peace.
