Finding Christ Throughout the Scriptures
And (Jesus) said to them, “O foolish ones, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken! Was it not necessary that the Christ should suffer these things and enter into his glory?” And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he interpreted to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning himself (Luke 24:25-27).
As a pastor, I’ve spoken with so many people who are burnt out when it comes to spending time in God’s Word. And many times when I ask them what they’ve been reading, they’ll only mention the New Testament books.
So I ask them, “Why don’t you ever read the Old Testament?”
“It’s too boring,” They’ll say, “The New Testament is so much more uplifting and practical.”
But the Old Testament is anything but boring. In fact, reading the New Testament without reading the Old Testament is a bit like seeing the sequel to a movie without ever watching the first part!
The Bible is the great story of God’s redemption. And throughout the pages of the Old Testament and the New Testament, the message of eternal life is given and Jesus is always present. Standing somewhere in the shadows, in types, in pictures, and in prophecies, the Lord Jesus Christ reveals himself in the Old Testament.
So don’t neglect some of God’s richest love letters to you because when you read the Old Testament, you may be surprised how often you see Christ!
