Father Knows Best

If you’re old enough, chances are you remember a television show that aired in the 1950s called “Father Knows Best.” Featuring a put-together family with well-behaved children and wise parents, a critic at the time wrote, “Jim Anderson (the fictional father character) may be the first intelligent father permitted on TV since they invented the thing.” “Father Knows Best” gave a positive example to families all over the nation, and made us believe that following dad’s advice and guidance might just lead to a happy ending.
Jim Anderson was just a fictional portrayal of an earthly father. What we can trust today is that our eternal, heavenly Father truly does know what’s best. He knows our thoughts and motives, not to mention others’ thoughts and motives. He knows our past, our present set of circumstances and the future. How can we not trust Him to give us guidance?
To turn our backs on good advice and sound judgment is foolish, especially when the person bringing this knowledge is a loving God completely without sin.
Let’s live like we believe the truth that our Father truly does know best.
