Everyone Is a Critic
"You shall hide them in the secret place of Your presence from the plots of man;you shall keep them secretly in a pavilion from the strife of tongues." Psalm 31:20, NKJV
People will always have an opinion about you. Some people will feel the need to tell you their opinion - especially in this age of social media. People who are against you will criticize, rant, rave and not sign their letters. People who are for you will offer you constructive criticism and speak the truth in love.
Anyone been criticizing you lately? Is it mean-spirited or constructive? Before you turn into King Kong and slap people upside their head, evaluate the criticism to see if there is any constructive truth in what is being said and then adjust accordingly.
If the criticism is negative, hurtful and mean-spirited it’s easy to recognize that the root of that type of criticism is usually jealousy and envy.
Rick Warren describes what to do with the criticism that comes from others when your life, family, business or ministry begins to grow:
"When you're small, they'll dismiss you; when you're growing, they'll criticize you; and when you're large, they'll resent you. So ignore 'them' and get on with whatever God has told you to do!"
Fortunately, God doesn't allow us to hear most critics. The Bible says He hides us in His Presence from the strife of tongues! Today, if people are being critical of your life, family, business or church (not to mention your figure, house, car, hair or a host of other things) just remember to: “...ignore 'them' and get on with whatever God has told you to do!”
Say This: "Father, I want to live a life that is pleasing to You. Help me listen to the constructive advice from people who love me and thank You for hiding me from the critical strife of tongues by those who don't. With Your help, I’ll ignore the critics and get on with all that You have told me to do. In Jesus' Name. Amen."
