Every Spiritual Blessing
Read: 2 Samuel 9:1-11:27, John 15:1-27, Psalm 119:49-64 & Proverbs 16:1-3
Have you ever met a stranger and discovered in conversation that he knows your parents? His relationship with your family may have caused him to react negatively or positively toward you. Someone may even have done you a favor because of a relationship with one of your parents.
In 2 Samuel 9, David blesses Mephibosheth, the son of his friend Jonathan, because he wants to bless someone in Saul’s family. The Bible tells us Mephibosheth was lame in both feet. This disability probably kept him from working and earning a living. What Mephibosheth couldn’t provide for himself, he was given because of his relationship to Jonathan.
Like Mephibosheth, followers of Christ are blessed because of their Father. Once we enter into God’s family through a relationship with Jesus, we are “blessed … in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ” (Ephesians 1:3). What we can’t provide for ourselves, God gives to us because of our relationship with Jesus.
Mephibosheth had a royal heritage but was living alone when David found him. Realize that today, through Jesus, an inheritance of peace, joy, salvation and every spiritual blessing has been given to you.
