Every Good Path

How can we know God’s will for our lives?

Read: Proverbs 2:1-9 and Romans 12:2

How can we know God’s will for our lives? The answer to this question comes through preparation. As God leads us towards His will, we will always be in the process of being made ready. Proverbs 2 gives a picture of what this process looks like. It starts with an intentional pursuit of wisdom. Proverbs 2:2 says, “Turn your ear to wisdom.” This means to lean in, incline, and ready yourself to hear God speak to your heart about the issues of your life, your place in it, and how to have Godly influence and purpose in it. Verse 3 says to “call out for insight and cry aloud for understanding.” Your pursuit of God’s will requires passion--the kind that enables you to persist through every kind of challenge you will encounter.

If you want to know what He has planned for you, it cannot be overstated how important it is that you know Him more and more. Proverbs 2: 6-8 continues by listing a few of the attributes and characteristics specifically important for this part of your journey with Him: “He gives wisdom and understanding," (verse 6) “He holds victory in store for us," (verse 7) "He protects us and protects our way” (verse 8).

Finally, when you are centered in Christ, intentional about pursuing Him, understand His character and know His attributes, Proverbs 2:9 says, “Then you will understand what is right and just and fair--every good path.” When you love God, you will have a hopeful expectancy for what He has prepared in advance for you to do. Grow in wisdom, have passion and grow in the knowledge of God. Do your part in while developing and cultivating your relationship with the Lord and “then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is--His pleasant, pleasing and perfect will" (Romans 12:2).
