Most believers have only a vague notion of their true identity and spiritual wealth, and as a consequence, they live like spiritual paupers without appropriating the marvelous resources that God has placed at their disposal. They are frustrated when they hear messages that tell them how they ought to order their lives, because they do not know how to accomplish this, and even when they try, they do not succeed. The first half of Ephesians (1-3) offers a solution to this dilemma by exposing us to the treasury of spiritual blessings that are already ours in Christ if we will lay hold of them by faith in His promises. By looking to Him for our identity and empowerment, we discover that it is possible through His grace to fulfill the commands that are developed in the second half of Ephesians (4-6).
