Eating Habits

Description

Being a good steward is not limited to how we manage our money. We are responsible for the way we take care of our bodies.

“Food is for the stomach, and the stomach is for food; but God will do away with both of them.”
(1 Corinthians 6:13)

The majority of Americans have poor eating habits. I think the problem we’re having with food is the same problem we have with almost every other thing we do: We tend to overindulge and not be very discerning.

When I think back to when I had my heart attack (eight years before I was diagnosed with cancer), I remember what changes had to be made. I changed my diet—drastically! I got busy and lowered my cholesterol from about 245 down to 90, and I kept it there or below for eight years.

Looking back, and having read a lot more about it, I believe that I might have overreacted. That drastic measure could possibly have contributed to my having cancer.

After both illnesses, I knew that to do what God wanted me to do, which is to teach and to write, I had to make some fundamental decisions, either in treatment or in diet.

After researching many diets, some of which were so rigid I knew I would never stick to them, I decided I would have to establish my own regimen—one that would not prohibit my work for the Lord.

We are responsible for the way we take care of our bodies. Being a good steward is not limited to how we manage our money. It also includes taking care of the “temple.”

The apostle Paul wrote, “Do you not know that you are a temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?” (1 Corinthians 3:16).
