If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God we serve is able to deliver us from it, and he will deliver us from Your Majesty’s hand. But even if he does not, we want you to know, Your Majesty, that we will not serve your gods or worship the image of gold you have set up. Daniel 3: 17-18
Standing up for what you believe is sometimes a very difficult thing to do, it often takes great inner strength. Shadrach, Meshach and Abendnego demonstrated this inner strength in a courageous way in Daniel 3. They knew they could die for making this decision, but they could not back down. They would not choose the path of evil or the path of compromise. Instead they chose the heroic yet difficult path of obedience.
The inner strength and moral character these men demonstrated did not occur overnight. It comes with God’s help and a strong moral character taught at an early age. As parents, this is the faith and character we want to instill in our children. Chances are they won’t face the threat of death because they won’t bow to an idol, but they will face moral dilemmas. Your early instruction can help them learn to rely on God and demonstrate that inner strength to overcome such dilemmas.
Ask God to help you instill this inner strength in your child/children. Ask Him to help you demonstrate this character in your own life also.
