Don't Test Him
The devil led him to Jerusalem and had him stand on the highest point of the temple. “If you are the Son of God,” he said, “throw yourself down from here. For it is written: “‘He will command his angels concerning you to guard you carefully; they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.’” Jesus answered, “It is said: ‘Do not put the Lord your God to the test.’” When the devil had finished all this tempting, he left him until an opportune time.
The devil threw a challenge out to Jesus to see how secure He was in His mission on earth. He said, “If you are the Son of God…” That big, two-lettered word “IF” can really drive us crazy sometimes; especially when it comes to understanding who God is in our lives.
We say things like, “If you do this for me, I’ll be good.” or, “If you really loved me you would take this away from me.”
But when we are tempted by these thoughts let’s remember what Jesus told the devil so long ago, “Do not put the Lord your God to the test.” We don’t need to test God because He has already proven Himself; time and time again.
