Don’t Distance Yourself
Though the Lord is great, he cares for the humble, but keeps his distance from the proud (Psalm 138:6).
Technology is a great tool to use to stay informed about the world and people around us. It’s good to be informed, for example, about the current state of our government or what’s going on with friends and family. Even the most current celebrity news could be interesting occasionally. And in turn, we, of course, feel compelled to inform the world about our own current status. But how much of this gathering and sharing of information is really helping us to further our relationship with God?
It’s easy to get drawn in to the tentacles of technology that distract us from what really matters in life. We can spend hours focusing on the latest world issue, current celebrity stumble or how many likes and comments we received on our latest status update. Meanwhile, our focus on God and His provision for our lives is completely diminished due to the distance pride has put between us. Don’t let technology take you on the ride of pride that distances you from God. Focus instead on the blessings He has provided for you. In doing so, you can’t help but be humbled by His love for you as He draws you near.
Ask God to help you focus your time on your relationship with Him and the people and things that matter to Him, rather than the things that distract you from a meaningful relationship.
Before using your technology to inform you of everyone else, use it to draw closer to God. Schedule a devotional to begin your day on your technology device of choice.
