Don't Cheat Yourself
Read: Hebrews 11:32-12:13
Working out of town during the week is conflicting and stressful. I enjoy my job and my family but often feel forced to choose between the two. My desire to be at home has become so great that I am willing to make career sacrifices to be closer to my family.
Last week, I saw an ideal job posting. My reaction after reading the job description was, “Wow, I wish I could do that job!” I decided to apply and after submitting the application, I thought, “It’s a long shot.” I immediately felt God’s response, “No, it’s God’s shot.”
Hebrews 11, often referred to as the faith chapter, provided me with encouragement. Verses 32-34 bring closure to the record of faith evidenced by many notable biblical figures. These influential leaders were ordinary people with the faith to believe in God’s promise. Why would I think that I was not worthy of a position for which I held the qualifications?
There are numerous accounts in the Bible where God uses people to perform miraculous deeds who did not possess the earthly qualifications, but because they were obedient and kept the faith, God provided them with the strength to achieve. If this job is where God wants me to serve then it will happen. Are you cheating yourself out of God’s promise because you are afraid to take a leap of faith?
