Do You Readily Accept and Trust Others
Did you know that some people immediately trust others and accept information (optimists), while others are more skeptical and you have to build their trust (realists)?
Ministry Insights, creator of Leading from Your Strengths, teaches us that “When a realist asks validating questions it can communicate a lack of trust to the optimist. And when an optimist presents ideas with feelings instead of facts to the realist, communication can become hindered.”
How has this personality difference played out in your interactions? Simply front-ending your questioning can make a big difference–e.g. “Please don’t take this personally, but I need to ask some questions to better understand...” Or if you are an optimist over-using your enthusiasm, make sure that you are anchored in facts before you present your idea.
All so simple, but it begins with understanding how God has created you. Sometimes we become self-critical and wish that our natural strengths were different. Let me remind you that God made you exactly as He wanted you to carry out the mission that He has for your life.
I love the way the Message puts it in Romans 9:20-21... Who in the world do you think you are to second-guess God? Do you for one moment suppose any of us knows enough to call God into question? Clay doesn't talk back to the fingers that mold it, saying, "Why did you shape me like this?" Isn't it obvious that a potter has a perfect right to shape one lump of clay into a vase for holding flowers and another into a pot for cooking beans?
