Do You Put God In A Box?
Read: “The Fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.” (Proverbs 9:10)
Think: I’m sure you’ve seen kids who have no fear of their parents. It isn’t pretty. Those kids have a weak view of their parents and so they become rebellious and out of control. They do what they want to do regardless of their parents’ position.
Are we like this with God? Do we act like we are in control of Him? Have we placed Him in a box where we can take Him out when we think it is to our advantage and then put Him back when we feel it is convenient? Have we such a small view of God?
We need to ask God to blow the sides of our little boxes apart and teach us to truly fear Him. We need to become zealous for the fear of the Lord. We need to know Him so deeply that our minds spin in trying to comprehend His ways.
He spoke and the world came into being. His thoughts are higher than our thoughts. His grace is greater than all our sin. His justice is perfect. He knows my name and cares about my day. He is absolutely amazing.
It is only when God becomes truly awesome in our minds that we begin to have wisdom in this life. If we start from any other place our way will be disastrous and fraught with despair.
Ask: Has God become small to you? Is He someone you walk with throughout your day or just someone you visit on Sundays? Do you think you have Him all figured out? When was the last time you simply sat in awe of Him?
Pray: Lord, please blow my mind. Where my understanding of You is small, make it great. Where my knowledge of You is weak, make it strong. Destroy the box by which I limit You and teach me to walk in humble fear. Amen
