Do You Know Your Financial Strengths and Weaknesses?
It is important to discover your own financial strengths and weaknesses and then improve these areas by learning and applying the principles in God’s Word.
In 2 Timothy 3:16-17, the Word of God makes this incredible claim:“All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.” Did you catch that? The Bible is not only to be our authority when dealing with “spiritual” matters, but it’s to be our guide for every area of life, including practical matters related to our finances.
The most practical thing we could ever learn is to apply spiritual truth to our every decision. There are literally thousands of verses in the Bible about handling money and possessions, and it was a subject of particular focus for Jesus Himself. The financial principles contained in God’s Word have stood the test of time. They are tested, reliable, trustworthy and given for our benefit. There is no higher standard for financial principles than those given by God.
Now historically, people have relied on their Credit Score or other external measurements as an indicator of their financial well-being. This is often a poor measure of overall financial health, yet it is considered to be the most important score in our personal finances. The problem? Our credit score only shows our external behaviors, not our internal beliefs. And most financial training relies heavily on modifying behaviors by following models and practices that have proven successful based on man’s economy.
Romans 12:1-2 says that we are transformed by renewing our mind -- that is, by changing our beliefs. Lasting change comes when we first modify what we believe. Once God transforms our heart beliefs, our behaviors will naturally follow.
