Do You Know the Truth?
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God. (John 3:16-18 ESV)
So many of us have heard that verse and maybe even memorized it. But today something caught my attention . . . this was written in red ink. Jesus was explaining to Nicodemus – a ruler of the Jews – the plan of salvation. Many Jews did eventually come to accept Christ as the Messiah, but as we know, many did not. Here was this well studied, religious man, who confessed and knew that Jesus was ‘a teacher come from God’ but yet did not understand humbly asking ‘how can these things be?’
Maybe you’re like Nicodemus. Maybe you’ve heard the Jesus story and you think He’s a good man. Or maybe you even believe that He was the Son of God. But that’s not enough. Jesus himself told us that we need to believe and live for Christ. To turn away from our sin and confess forgiveness from the blood of Jesus. It’s not enough just to know the truth; we need to make a decision to make Him our own.
Father, I know that I’m a sinner in need of a Savior. Thank You for sending Your only Son to die on the cross for me. Thank You for loving me so! How I’ve longed to be loved and to know the truth! Please forgive me of my sins, wash me in the blood of Jesus and send Your Holy Spirit to fill and walk with me. Today I make You the Lord of my life. Amen!
