Do You Have Any Fruit?

Fruits of the Spirit are an overflow of abiding in Jesus Christ.

Galatians 5: 22

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.

Everyone wants the traits of the Holy Spirit: Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.  The problem is, most of us “try” to do them in our own strength and our own strength will only get us so far.  In a mom’s world, I can try and be patient but in my own strength that will usually get me till about 10 a.m. or until my children are fighting with each other, the cat throws up on my new comforter, and my toddler spills apple juice on the floor for the second time in one morning. Patience runs thin when all those things are happening at once.  What is a mom to do?

Fruits of the Spirit are an overflow of me abiding in Jesus Christ.  When I am abiding in Jesus—spending time with Him, connecting with Him on a regular basis, taking all my fears to Him and resting in Him, then I will begin to see fruit.  My day will not change. I will still have children that fight, cats that throw up, and toddlers that spill, but the difference will be me.  I will handle the situations better, more lovingly, more patiently, because the Holy Spirit will be oozing out of me.  In fact, it won't be me at all, it will be Jesus.  However, this type of life only comes through abiding.  IF you want to have fruit, you must be connected to the Source of the fruit, and that is Jesus.

Father, Thank you for giving me the Holy Spirit.  God, my desire is to have all of the fruits of the Spirit in my life at all times,  and I want to abide in You. Over the next few months, Lord, teach me how to abide, even in this crazy world of being a mom, where I feel like I don’t have any time to spare. God, show me how to abide in You, while I am cooking dinner, nursing my child, in the carpool line, talking to my teenager.  Is it possible God?  If it is, teach me. I want to learn.
