A family sits in the afternoon sun in an internally displaced camp in Erbil, Iraq.

Cold weather in high-altitude areas of northern Iraq is causing hardships for hundreds of thousands of displaced Iraqis  who need better shelter.

About 10 million people in Iraq, including 244,000 Syrian refugees and 3.2 million Iraqis internally displaced by ongoing conflict, need some form of humanitarian aid. Violence has severely limited aid workers’ access to communities in need, and many of the displaced are without the basics.

World Vision has been distributing winter kits containing items like mattresses, carpet, warm blankets, plastic sheets, rope, and heaters to displaced families who live in camps and unfinished buildings.
