Desire or Devotion
“Is anything too hard for the LORD?” -Genesis 18:14
Is there a desire God has placed in your heart; one whose flame simply will not be quenched? Perhaps a dream that has not yet been realized - no matter how long you have waited. I walk with a weight like that tied securely around my heart. I have grown in strength and wisdom; and, because of that - the weight seems lighter. It is not always before me, as it once was - in my constant line of vision and consuming my thoughts. It is - however - still there, in the background.
But - I’ve come to a new understanding in the last year or so. It has taken time and a complete shift in my thinking; God has been "raising this new wisdom up” inside my heart… and, I am fully convinced that there are desires God places within us - that He knows will never be fulfilled. These longings serve a different purpose…
They are so deeply rooted, so engrained in our makeup- one could no more be separated from them than one could live without breath in their lungs. They are so real and so strong - they create an undeniable need. God uses this void; rather than giving us what we so selfishly desire, He draws us to Himself, causing us to become more and more dependent on Him. He weans us of our cravings and replaces that hunger with a satisfaction found only in relationship with Him.
Maybe God will give you what you so earnestly desire. Maybe He won’t. Either way - you have a choice to make: will you live for yourself and the desires that flow from within you? OR - will you live a life wholly devoted to Him - no matter what He gives or takes away?”
Prayer: Lord, you knit us together in our mother’s wombs. You know the deceitfulness of our hearts. You see the depths of the cravings of sinful man… and yet - you LOVE us! Your desire is to see us grow up in the things of You. We know that NOTHING is too hard for you! Whether our dreams are realized or forever barren - may we wholeheartedly be able to say, “Blessed be the name of the LORD! Amen
