Jeremiah 17: 7-8
But blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in him. He will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and fever fails to bear fruit.
We are always putting our confidence and trust in something in our lives. How many times have we put our confidence in someone, only to be disappointed? Or how many times have we put our faith and trust in something? We can put our confidence in our job and then lose it. We can put our confidence in the church and then find out about a huge scandal, which then destroys our faith in church, as a whole. We can put our confidence in our health and fitness only to succumb to sickness.
God blesses those that trust in Him; God blesses those that say, “I’m all in, no matter what!” This type of confidence in God is unmistakable, not because of the person’s declaration but because of their actions. When a person trusts in God with all their heart, mind and soul, there is no denying God’s presence in their life, because when the drought comes, they do not wither and die. When the heat from the drought comes, this person is not over-heated, but freakishly calm and cool. The reason this person is calm is because they have learned to trust in God and not their circumstances. Circumstances will come and go— pain is inevitable— but God is a constant source of love, power and peace. There is peace with God, even in the storm.
God understands that this type of trust is rare indeed; therefore, He blesses those that have this type of faith.
Father, You are faithful. You are worthy of my trust and I pray that I would put all my confidence in You. God, I want my life to reflect You in all things, in the good and bad times. I know a drought will come, but keep me close to You and I will make it through.
