Kyla, a World Vision sponsored child in the Philippines, finished fifth grade with the highest honor in her class. She recalls how hard studying was after their house was totally destroyed by Typhoon Haiyan in 2013.

A top student, Kyla faced many challenges after Typhoon Haiyan struck her village in the Philippines. Nothing is sweeter, she says, than being able to share her success with those who helped her achieve it.

“I want to dedicate the award, first to my mother who never got tired of taking care of me and second, to all the people who helped us move forward after Haiyan,” she says.
