Dear Baby Jesus. . .
Did you see the movie “Talledega Nights”? It’s kind of silly, but I love the scene where Will Ferrell’s character prays to the “8 pound, 6 ounce newborn infant Jesus.”
We laugh, but how many times are we guilty of praying to the “Christmas version” of Jesus without considering his real power and strength? The baby Jesus in the nativity is nice, but Christmas is way more than a sweet nativity scene–it’s the time God himself entered the world!
And He didn’t come to give us warm fuzzies each December, but to enter our lives. The same God who formed the mountains has his arms around you. The same God who told the sea where to stop also stops to care for you. The same God who owns it all provides for you and your family. The same God who set the earth and planets in motion has a direction for your life.
1 Peter 1:3-5 says, “Because Jesus was raised from the dead, we’ve been given a brand-new life and have everything to live for including a future in heaven—and the future starts now! God is keeping careful watch over us and the future.”
I like the baby Jesus of Christmas, but I really like the adult Jesus who died for my sins to give me new life. That is the gift of Christmas!
