Days Are Numbered

Karen Stubbs talks to moms about making the most out of their time with their children before they turn 18.

Psalm 90:12

Teach us to number our days aright, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.

You have 6,570 days with your children from the day they are born until they turn 18 years old. You, as a mom, have 6,570 days to influence your child, to guide your child, to love on your child. For 6,570 days you have your child’s full attention. What are you going to do with those 6,570 days? Are you going to wish the days away? Dream about a time when your child is out of the house?  Or try to keep your child from growing and keep them with you as long as possible? All three of these options are not healthy for you or your child.

To make the most use of your time as a mom, first and foremost pray and ask God to give you a heart of wisdom for your child. Ask God to teach you about each child in your family. Pray that God would direct each day with that child, keeping your eyes focused on each day with clear eyes. Ask God to help you stay “in” the moment. Make your time count during your 6,570 days- you only get one shot with your children. Leverage your influence with your child, model to them the type of life you would like them to live, guide them each day (resisting controlling them), equip them with God’s truth, reflect Christ in all that you do and pray for them each and everyday. Keep in mind; you have a limited amount of time with your children- so make it count.

God, I rush through life, wishing my child’s life away. I wish for them to sleep through the night, to get through the terrible 2’s, I can’t wait until they go to school, I look forward to when they are a little older and I can watch them play sports and enjoy deeper conversations with them and then I can’t wait for them to drive to give me a break from carpooling. God, help me use my time wisely and to stay focused on You, while I enjoy each and everyday with my children.
