In chapters 8-12, the language switches from Aramaic back to Hebrew, since this section overviews God’s prophetic plan for Israel. These chapters describe Israel under the Medo-Persian and Grecian empires and detail the coming kings of Persia and Greece as well as the wars between the Ptolemies of Egypt and the Seleucids of Syria, and the persecution under Antiochus Epiphanes in the second century B.C. The people of God will be delivered from tribulation and raised from the dead (12).
Chapter 9 records the third of Daniel’s four visions. After his prayer of confession on behalf of his people, God’s faithful servant was given the revelation of the seventy weeks which gives the chronology of God’s plan for the redemption and deliverance of His people and predicts the time of Messiah’s atoning death.
