Dangers of a Hard Heart
Read: Deuteronomy 26:1-27:26 & Luke 10:38-11:13 & Psalm 76:1-12 &Proverbs 12:15-17
One of a believer’s biggest responsibilities and most crucial assets is being a Christ-like example. We are held accountable for every ounce of advice we give, every reaction we have and every word that leaves our mouths. Proverbs 12:15-17 teaches us not to act like fools, to listen patiently and always strive to be honest. You would be amazed if you knew exactly how many people notice what you say and do.
In addition to the potential consequences of being caught in a lie, giving faulty advice or causing someone else to stumble—there is another punishment for irrational behavior: your heart may become hardened to what God wants to teach you and calloused to how He wants to expand your sensitivity. “They are darkened in their understanding and separated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them due to the hardening of their hearts. Having lost all sensitivity so as to indulge in every kind of impurity, with a continual lust for more” (Ephesians 4:18-19).
A hard attitude and insensitive behavior will cause you to eventually lose your heart and sensitivity for Jesus. Can we really afford to set this kind of example?
