Dancing for Joy
Virginia is the captain of Maiella dancing club in school. “I organize dances for the members to participate in,” she says.
The club has danced at prestigious occasions like Madaraka Day (Kenya’s independence day celebrations), Day of the African Child, and at a seminar on preventing female genital mutilation.
Virginia says early marriage is one of the major problems that impact negatively on children in her community. Child labor, school drop outs, Female Genital Murtilation (FGM) and poverty are other issues that need to be addressed.
“if you are a school drop out the only viable thing for you to do is to engage in bad activities due to boredom. That leads to early marriage amongst the girl child and poverty due to lack of intelligent skills on how to make a positive decision in your life.”
The poise and confidence Virginia has gained through World Vision programs will help her to keep dancing joyfully as she gets older.
