Any one of us would have avoided the pain--the curse of the cross. Our God went directly to the pain and took the curse for us.

Galatians 3:13-14   Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us, for it is written: “Cursed is everyone who is hung on a pole.” He redeemed us in order that the blessing given to Abraham might come to the Gentiles through Christ Jesus, so that by faith we might receive the promise of the Spirit.           

There’s a section of the Bible that records the words of people watching Christ die on the cross.  Some of them say something like, “if He really is the Son of God, why can’t He get himself down off that cross.”

I think that because He was the Son of God that He couldn’t come down from the cross. He couldn’t because His love for us held Him there. Any person would have avoided that pain, that curse. Our God went directly to the pain and took the curse for us.
