Content Under His Wings


How is it we can be content in want or in plenty? It’s because we dwell under the shadow of the wing of Almighty God in both places.

Philippians 4:12-13 (NIV®)       

I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. I can do everything through him who gives me strength.


Paul says he has learned “the secret” of being content in every situation, whether in need or in abundance. This doesn’t make much sense to us. Abundance, yes, but how can we be content when we are in need? It’s because we can be dwelling under the shadow of the wing of Almighty God in both places, living in the strength that God provides for us. Is one place easier? Yes! But both places can be God-directed. We need faith to understand that whether our comfort and convenience are being served in the moment or not, God is still in control.



Heavenly Father, teach me satisfaction and gratitude for Your provision for me in all things. I choose to be content in every situation, for I can do everything through the strength You give me. In Jesus’ name, amen.
