Description

What could you do today to go out of your way to let those around you know that your spouse's feelings and needs are your priority?

She carefully watches all that goes on in her household.
Proverbs 31:27, NLT

Have you ever gone out on a double date with another married couple and humiliated your spouse? You know, by overreacting to something in a way that embarrassed him? Or by cutting her off when she was talking so you could make your own opinions heard? Or by just not behaving in a mature, loving way toward your spouse?

I know I (Teresa) have. Sometimes I am so concerned about whether or not the couple we are out with is having a good time, I forget to be sensitive to David. I'm so afraid that if the other couple isn't enjoying themselves, they won't like us or want to go out with us again, so I focus my attention on them, and David gets lost in the shuffle.

David isn't the kind of person to complain when that happens, but I know it hurts him—and with reason. That kind of behavior sends the message that he isn't the most important person in my life, that the couple we are with is more important. This isn't really how I feel, but actions truly do speak louder than words.

Whether you are on a double date, alone, or with the kids, do what's needed to let everyone around you know that your spouse's feelings and needs are of utmost importance to you. That is the kind of consideration we need to give to one another.

Our Scripture passage exhorts wives concerning this focus. We all need to ask ourselves if we are looking to please others or to meet the needs of our spouse.

What could you do today to go out of your way to let those around you know that your spouse's feelings and needs are your priority?

God, help me be considerate toward my spouse no matter where we are or who we are with.
