Not that we are competent in ourselves to claim anything for ourselves, but our competence comes from God. II Corinthians 3:5
Pride has many forms, and I can be very prideful when it comes to my children. Pride in their accomplishments, abilities, looks, personality, talents, and intelligence. However, I do not need to be prideful concerning my children—they are a gift from God and I am a steward of them. God is the Creator of my child and He gave them any and all of their talents.
My competence comes from God—and from God only. There is no need for me, as a mom, to take credit for any accomplishments concerning my children, because God gets all the credit. I can and should be happy for them. I would be full of pride to think that my child's success is due to my parenting skills. God gives me wisdom, if I seek Him, and He guides my steps. God gets all the glory and the praise.
Be thankful for your children, be proud in what God is accomplishing through them. Pray for them daily, that they will seek God with all their hearts. Children are a blessing from God—resist turning that blessing into a pride issue.
Father, thank You for my children. Thank You for blessing me in such a mighty way. I pray Lord that I will always parent my children in a way that is pleasing to You, that my parenting always points my children to You as their loving Heavenly Father. God, I am incredibly proud of my children and everything that they are, in life. Please keep me forever mindful that my children are what they are because of You.
