Communicating With Others

What keeps your voice from being heard by those around you?

What keeps your voice from being heard by those around you? Are you living a life of integrity and compassion? Do you consider the perspectives of others and how they might hear your words before you speak? Are you speaking in such a way that your words build up those who hear them? Sharing your thoughts so that you are able to influence others is an art, not a science. How can you improve your communication with others?

Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen (Ephesians 4:29).

Prayer: Lord, I want the things I say to benefit those who hear me. Help me to listen to those I come in contact with, to discern their needs, and to speak words that encourage and strengthen them. Help me know when to listen and when to speak. May my words convey Jesus’ love, wisdom and character, and build up the people with whom I interact today. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
