Come on in, Lord Jesus

Does Jesus feel at home in your heart? Is your love overflowing as you grow in knowledge and understanding of Him?

I pray that from his glorious, unlimited resources he will empower you with inner strength through his Spirit. Then Christ will make his home in your hearts as you trust in him (Ephesians 3:16–17, NLT).

I wiggled my toes deeper under the soft blanket and inhaled the steam from my mug of tea. This is the life!

I love the rare evening when I can rest on the couch, cup of tea and good book in hand, knowing my kids are safe in bed and my husband is nearby. Those are the moments when the homeyness of my home sinks through to my bones. I am content.

The Bible is filled with references to home, from God promising and leading His people to a new home in the Old Testament, to Jesus’ words about creating a home for us to spend with Him throughout eternity. (See John 14:2–3.) God knows our need for a deep sense of home. Even He desires a home where He feels at home. In the Old Testament it was the tabernacle and then the temple.

Have you ever really considered the impact of our hearts being Jesus’ home, as He spoke of in the New Testament? Think for a moment what that means: the Creator, Master, Lord and Savior of the Universe—the One who can’t be contained—desires to make His home in you and me.

On those quiet evenings when I have time to reflect on the deep issues of life, I sometimes wonder if my heart is expanding to allow Him more breathing room in me. Does my heart, in the words of 2 Corinthians 3:18 (cev), “show the bright glory of the Lord, as the Lord’s Spirit makes [me] more and more like our glorious Lord”? Is my love overflowing more and more as I grow in knowledge and understanding of Him? (See Philippians 1:9.)

Come on in, Lord Jesus. Make Yourself at home.

FAITH STEP: When do you feel most comfortable in your home? Do you think Jesus feels at home in your heart? Ask Him to be your Master Renovator.
