Close Your Eyes to Really See

God is at work in many areas of your life long before you can “see” the results. Today, begin living by faith rather than by sight.

Transformational Thought

The last couple of storms we’ve had have caused significant power outages that have lasted for several days. When we lost our power, I kept reflexively hitting the light switch expecting to get some help. It’s amazing just how dark a house can be, especially when you aren’t expecting darkness. Not being able to see is problematic. For some, it can be crippling because we aren’t used to being in the dark. In our normal state, we depend on our eyes as the primary radar system to gauge our surroundings. In fact, it takes an intense stimulus to set off our other radar systems: a skunk, a sudden noise, a bitter herb, a nudge on the arm.

Our vision is the most sensitive radar system we have. In fact, seeing clearly is vital to managing health and life itself. Without sight, we’re incapacitated. Our radar is out! Over time, though, we learn to develop our other senses, revealing an amazing world. Other radar systems get recalibrated, sensitized and cranked up.

Believe this: God is at work in many areas of your life long before you can discern or “see” the results. Shut down your reliance on the material radar that’s been honed by the false influences of this world. Start to develop the spiritual radar God built into you. Because we rarely turn it on or pay any attention to it, we allow it to atrophy, wither and decay. Trust Him by waiting patiently. Accept each moment as a gift from Him to exercise and develop the most important part of your awareness and defense system: your spiritual radar.

When the time is right, when you have learned to tune in to God’s spiritual station, you will see the outcomes of His handiwork—the results of his mercy and grace. Work on your spiritual radar. Learn to see Him in every situation in your life. Develop a focus on the eternal elements of your everyday life. Honing your spiritual radar is a skill. And, like any skill, the only way to get better is practice, practice, practice. There is no other way. The first drill to practice is trust. Trust is not simply belief, but the actual implementation of the spiritual truths in the Bible and in God’s character, promises and instructions for your life. When you trust, you behave as though what you believe is true. Learn to see God and apply His truth in every situation in your life. This is how you tune your spiritual radar to God’s station.

Today, begin living by faith rather than by sight. Do this by basing your decisions on God’s teachings instead of the world system’s lies. It will enable you to see and revel in His glory. Miracles are not always visible to the eye, but those who live by faith see them clearly and regularly. The life you yearn for—the life He has for you—is WITHIN REACH. Tune in to His frequency, and you will be able to see it and grab it easily! The station you tune to and the radar you use is your decision, so choose well.

Dear God, I want to see Your glory in myself and in others. I pray that You allow me just a glimpse of Your glory. Please give me spiritual radar and discerning eyes so I recognize miracles when I see them. I pray that You reveal more and more of Your glory-moments to me. I look forward to Your radiant perfection. Sadly, though, I know that this world I live in is deeply fallen. I pray for increased faith so I can accept and navigate this world’s brokenness, yet remain open to seeing Your beautiful miracles. I pray this in the name of the One with perfect spiritual radar, Jesus Christ. And all God’s children say AMEN!
