Christ and Good Works

God has prepared good works for us which are in harmony with Christ. We don’t have to find them; they find us.

I have spent my life stumbling into what God would have me to do. Sometimes I think I was just unimaginative, and so I just flowed along through life’s ruts. On the other hand, I have thought: If these are ruts, they are fascinating and high-class ones. My ruts have led me to pastor churches, lead organizations, influence thousands of people, and have a major ministry in other countries.

I used the word ruts but let me change it. I have felt at times my life was like a hand sliding into a well-fitted glove. It seemed that God had prepared me for things that just fit who I am. That is what Paul says God has done for us in Christ. Not only do we have a Savior but we also have a job:

For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them (Eph. 2:10).

In relationship to being in Christ, God has prepared good works for us that are in harmony with Christ. We don’t have to find them; they find us. It’s like a taxi waiting on the curb to pick us up. We have a choice though. Shall we look for the taxi and shall we get in?
