Choosing to Respect Him

Sometimes you have to choose to respect your husband, especially when you don’t feel like it!

Sometimes I have to choose to respect my husband even when I don’t feel it.

My husband and I are very different. He’s laid back and I’m task oriented. He’s a little unorganized and I like things put away.

When we first got married, I felt like I was always finding clothes on the floor. In my head, I labeled JJ “messy.” My respect dropped a notch. After a few weekends of him watching basketball all day, I labeled him “lazy." And my respect for him dropped another notch.

One afternoon I was reading in the Bible where it says that we wives are to respect our husbands, unconditionally. And boy, did I feel convicted! I knew I was going to need God’s help.

So I started praying about my attitude and asked God to help me make a list of qualities I did respect about JJ. Then I decided to focus on those every day. It wasn’t easy to do, but it has transformed my marriage!
