Check Up From the Neck Up


It's time to evaluate your thoughts about your work situation!

Why O’ Why?
Maybe it is a new job. Maybe it’s a job you have been at for years. There is always a good reason to take a brief check up to evaluate why you are on the job. There might be two degrees of separation between your dreams and reality or there might be 180 degrees.

Why did you take this job?
Consider why you took this job. Were there other options? Did it seem a good fit?  Was it the location? The pay? The opportunity for growth? What factors led you to say “yes!”

What were you expecting?  
Before day one what was your expectation of life in this new role? What promised implicit and explicit were made? What assumptions did you have about the work environment, work load and work satisfaction.

What are you experiencing? 
How do you feel every morning when you wake up? How about at the end of the day? Is it the exhaustion that comes with day of hard work along with the satisfaction of a job well done?  Or are you feeling stressed not blessed?

What are the differences? 
Review your answers to the questions above. Are you 2 degrees or 180 degrees from what you thought?  What can you do to close the gap? Spend a few minutes brainstorming ways to adjust your expectations and improve your work situation. Now commit to doing some of them before week’s end.
