Change of Plans

Description

Are you mindful of the Holy Spirit moving, are you ready to be included in something bigger than your daily agenda? Where we find ourselves each day is not an accident.

Read: Matthew 27:32-44, Mark 15:21-32, Luke 23:26-43 & John 19:17-27

“A certain man from Cyrene, Simon, the father of Alexander and Rufus, was passing by on his way in from the country, and they forced him to carry the cross” (Mark 15:21).

Most of us start our day with a fairly good idea of what to expect. If someone asked right now what you’re doing tomorrow, you could probably list off where you’re going, what you’re doing and who you’re going to see. From picking up the kids to meeting a new client to turning in a term paper, we all start our day with some kind of plan for what will happen.

Simon wasn’t any different. He woke up the day of Jesus’s crucifixion with places to go and people to see. But with one tap on the shoulder (or a grab of the arm), Simon’s day, his direction and his story were instantly changed. Simon became a participant in the greatest expression of love of all time: God sacrificing His son to take the punishment for our sins so we could live in relationship with our Heavenly Father.

Our best laid plans can change in an instant, just like Simon’s. The question is how we will respond. Are you mindful of the Holy Spirit moving, are you ready to be included in something bigger than your daily agenda? Or, do you ignore, bemoan and avoid any detour from your day? Where we find ourselves each day is not an accident. So regardless of how it happens, we’re always in the right place at the right time.
