Catching Tears

Tears can be a wonderful thing, especially as God catches them!

"Thou tellest my wanderings: put thou my tears into thy bottle: are they not in thy book?" Psalm 56:8 KJV

What does the bottle look like? Do each of us have our own bottle? And, what is this book? Don’t the pages get wet? I know these may seem like silly questions, but they are real to me. I want to know all I can about a God who would collect tears!

What does He do with them? Why are they so important to Him? Does He measure the size of the drops? Does He analyze the chemical makeup? Does He catch them with His hand or with the bottle? Has He ever dropped one?

The Bible talks a lot about tears. I suppose that is because tears are such a real part of life. Recently, I was watching a television program. It is very rare that I do, but especially to be alone and watching. My wife was with some Sunday School friends and the boys were in bed, so I turned on the TV. The show was just an ordinary show. In this particular episode, the main characters said goodbye to another character who was leaving. He is apparently being written off the show. It was so sad to me I cried! Keep in mind, I am a strong “T” (for thinking) on most personality profiles where the opposite is “F” (for feeling). I don’t cry much. I guess I just needed one.

The next morning, I read this verse. The tears I shed were not necessarily for me, although it did feel good afterwards. I wondered, did God collect those tears as well? Who knows, you may need to shed a few. Tears can be a wonderful thing, especially as God catches them!
