Cash Cow

Description

Rafiki, 14, puts down fodder for her family’s cow. She lives in a dry and dusty village in Tanzania, but with hard work her family makes enough income to guarantee her education.

Rafiki and her family know what it is to be poor. They live in a house without electricity and a village without a hospital and a safe water supply.

“We lived a miserable life. I could not afford to take care of my family; we struggled a lot,” says Rose, Rafiki’s mother.

But things have improved.

“World Vision trained me on entrepreneurship, horticulture and savings,” says Rose.

After the training, she joined a savings group and borrowed money for house construction. Now Rose and her family live in a house roofed by corrugated iron sheets.

Her small food business has helped her to provide for basic family needs.

“I eat three times daily, food is not a struggle for us now, and my mother’s business is doing well because her capital has risen,” Rafiki says.

Please pray for families around the world who struggle with poverty, that the bright promise of their children may be fulfilled.
