Building Back Trust

What can you do when someone has broken your trust?

Has someone ever broken your trust?

When my friend Jane checked the history on her daughter’s computer she discovered her daughter had visited some websites she wasn’t very happy about, and it made her sick. Jane wasn’t only upset about things her daughter had seen, but also felt like she couldn’t trust her anymore.

Jane called and asked me how she could ever trust her daughter again? We talked about how it takes time to build back trust and steps she could take. First she needed to talk God about the hurt and acknowledge she’d broken His trust before, too. Doing that made her realize how much she needed His forgiveness, which helped her forgive her daughter.

Jane offered forgiveness, but she also set boundaries and was honest about her deep hurt. And she explained it would take time to trust her again.
