Build Your House

Description

Remember, you are building your house, your family. Be wise with your time and resources to build up the best family you can.

Proverbs 14:1

The wise woman builds her house, but with her own hands the foolish one tears hers down.

What does it look like to build your house? We all want to be considered wise women and the wisest man that walked this earth said a wise woman builds her house. In building any home, you must start with the foundation. A builder must prepare the land, leveling it out, getting it ready to build upon.  Next comes the house plans- the builder needs a set of plans, so everyone is on the same page while building. The house plans are cross-referenced hundreds of times and sometimes adjusted as the house is being built, but the builder sticks to the plan. Experts in plumbing, electrical, sheet rocking, etc. are brought in for their expertise. After an extended amount of time, the house is completed. A builder must be patient to see the project through to the bitter end.

In a mom’s world, we need to follow the same plan:

  • Build your foundation: Your foundation is your walk with the Lord, reading His word, praying and developing a trusting relationship with Him.
  • House plan: Have a plan of what you want your family to look like in 10 years. Take time with your husband to discuss values, traditions, qualities that your family will be known for. Ex: Responsible children, honest children, close knit family. Build towards these things. You may need to make adjustments as you go, but you will have the plan to evaluate how you are doing.
  • Experts: Bring in the experts that your family needs when they are needed. Sometime an expert might be a family member who has walked the road you are traveling. Mentors are always a good idea. At times, you may even need tutors or counselors for your children to get them through a rough spot. Don’t be afraid or embarrassed to call an expert.

Remember, you are building your house, your family. Be wise with your time and resources to build up the best family you can.

Prayer

Father, Thank You for telling me how to be a wise mom.  I need all the help I can get.  God, as I prepare the foundation with You, show me if there is anything in my life that I need to get rid of, to prepare my heart to be dedicated to You alone.  Give my husband and I wisdom as we map out our plan.  I know life does not always work out the way we plan, but with my foundation strong in You, I know You will get me through whatever comes my way.  Bring experts in my life to glean from. I’m ready to start building my house!
